1. Who We Are

The Spirit Guide is operated by Sean K. McCauley ("we," "us," "our"). If you have questions about this policy, contact us at spiritguidelibrary@gmail.com.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

• Account information: Email address and password (stored as a cryptographic hash — we cannot read your password)
• Consultation queries: The questions and tradition selections you submit to the Spirit Guide
• Journal entries: Text you write in the journal feature
• Tarot readings: Spread type, deck selection, and the AI interpretations generated for you

Information collected automatically:

• Usage data: Consultation counts and credit balances, necessary for enforcing subscription limits
• Browser local storage: Journal display preferences (font, size, ruled lines) and atmospheric theme selections — stored only in your browser, never sent to our servers

Payment information: We do not collect or store payment card numbers, bank account details, or other sensitive financial information. All payment processing is handled directly by Stripe (see Section 4). We receive only a customer ID and subscription/payment status from Stripe.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and operate the Service (answer queries, display journal entries, track subscription access)
• To send you transactional emails (account verification, password reset) via Resend
• To enforce usage limits associated with your subscription tier
• To improve the Service (aggregated, anonymized usage patterns only)

We do not use your consultation queries or journal entries to train AI models, and we do not share them with Anthropic or any third party for training purposes. Your queries are transmitted to Anthropic's Claude API solely to generate your response and are subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.

4. Third-Party Services

The Spirit Guide uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

• Stripe — Payment processing. Stripe collects and stores your payment card details. Stripe Privacy Policy
• Anthropic (Claude API) — AI response generation. Your queries are transmitted to Anthropic to generate responses. Anthropic Privacy Policy
• Resend — Transactional email delivery (account verification, password resets). Resend Privacy Policy
• Railway — Cloud hosting and managed database. Your data is stored on Railway-managed infrastructure. Railway Privacy Policy

We do not use advertising networks, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics on this Service.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data (email, hashed password, consultation history, journal entries) will be deleted from our database within 30 days. Stripe may retain billing records for longer periods as required by law or their own policies.

Anonymized, aggregated data (e.g., total consultation counts with no user identifiers) may be retained indefinitely for operational purposes.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
• Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Portability: Request an export of your data in a machine-readable format
• Opt-out: Opt out of any non-essential communications

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at spiritguidelibrary@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days. EU/EEA users may also lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority.

7. Cookies and Local Storage

The Spirit Guide uses a session cookie to keep you logged in. This cookie contains only a session identifier and no personal information. It is essential to the operation of the Service and cannot be disabled without logging out.

We use browser localStorage to remember your journal display preferences and atmospheric theme choices. This data never leaves your browser and is not transmitted to our servers. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.

8. Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including:

• Passwords are hashed using bcrypt — we cannot recover or read your password
• All data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS
• Payment data is never handled by our servers (Stripe's tokenization is used)
• Database access is restricted to application infrastructure

No system is perfectly secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected data from a minor, we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. For material changes affecting how we use your data, we will notify active account holders by email. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
