By accessing or using The Spirit Guide ("the Service," "we," "us," or "our"), you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. We reserve the right to update these terms at any time; continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
The Spirit Guide is a web-based application that retrieves passages from a curated library of ancient philosophical and spiritual texts and, for paid users, synthesizes those passages using artificial intelligence to offer contemplative guidance. The Service also includes tarot reading features, a personal journal, and a meditation timer.
The Service is provided for contemplative, educational, and personal enrichment purposes only. It is not a substitute for professional spiritual counsel, medical advice, psychological therapy, legal advice, or financial guidance. Nothing generated by the Service should be construed as such.
You must be at least 18 years of age to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement. If you are under 18, do not use the Service.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
The Spirit Guide offers paid subscription plans and one-time credit purchases, processed through Stripe. By subscribing or purchasing credits, you agree to the applicable pricing displayed at checkout.
You may cancel a subscription at any time through your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain access through that date. We do not prorate partial periods.
All prices are in US dollars. We reserve the right to change pricing with reasonable notice to subscribers.
Subscription payments are generally non-refundable. If you believe you have been charged in error, contact us within 14 days of the charge and we will review your request. Credit pack purchases are non-refundable once credits have been used. Unused credits may be eligible for a refund within 14 days of purchase at our discretion.
A free "Librarian" tier is available without payment. Paid subscription users receive a monthly consultation allowance that rolls over (up to a cap) if unused. Credit pack usage has no monthly limits beyond the credits available. We reserve the right to adjust allowances and limits with notice.

Responses generated by the Service are produced by a large language model (Claude, by Anthropic) drawing on retrieved passages from public-domain spiritual and philosophical texts. These responses are offered for contemplative and educational purposes only.
The Spirit Guide is not a licensed spiritual advisor, therapist, physician, attorney, or financial planner, and no content provided through the Service constitutes professional advice of any kind. If you are experiencing a medical or mental health emergency, please contact emergency services or a qualified professional immediately.
AI responses may contain errors, omissions, or interpretations that do not accurately reflect the source texts. Always consult primary sources and qualified professionals for matters of consequence.
Content you create within the Service — including journal entries, questions asked, and any other personal inputs — remains yours. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store and process that content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. We do not sell, share, or use your personal content to train AI models.
You are responsible for the content you submit. Do not enter sensitive personal information (such as financial account numbers, government ID numbers, or medical records) into journal or query fields.
The Spirit Guide application, including its design, code, AI prompts, curation, and non-public-domain written materials, is the intellectual property of Sean K. McCauley. The spiritual and philosophical texts made available through the Service are drawn from public-domain sources. AI-synthesized responses are generated on your behalf and you may use them for personal, non-commercial purposes.
Nothing in these Terms transfers any ownership of our intellectual property to you.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other users, the Service, or third parties. You may delete your account at any time through account settings. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL SEAN K. MCCAULEY OR THE SPIRIT GUIDE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM YOUR ACCESS TO OR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO ACCESS OR USE) THE SERVICE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU HAVE PAID TO US IN THE THREE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) TEN US DOLLARS ($10).
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be resolved in the courts located in Los Angeles County, California.
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. For material changes, we will notify active subscribers by email. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
